As a teenager, I didn’t look after my teeth properly, and so I started to pay the price a few years ago: my teeth were looking aged and decayed. I decided I needed to do something about it, but didn’t know quite what route to take. After speaking to my dentists in Reading, I decided that I’d give cosmetic bonding a try. I went to the dentist, and he used a cream coloured liquid to fill in the gaps in my teeth where there had been decay. It worked a lot like plastering over the cracks on a wall, and by the time he was finished my teeth looked really great.
I chose cosmetic bonding over the traditional kinds of fillings because I wanted the work to last, so I wouldn’t have to go back to the dentist again any time soon. Also, I wanted the filling to be the same colour as my teeth, improving the look of my smile, and cosmetic bonding has that advantage over ordinary metallic-looking fillings. I spent about £1000 on cosmetic bonding, but had a number of teeth done. Asides from anything else, I’ve noticed how much stronger and less sensitive all of my teeth feel now, and it’s just great.

Dental implants are a real God send to people who have suffered a tooth or teeth loss. They are a great innovation in dental advances to those people that cannot get on with dentures or a bridge. They come from research carried out in the late 1950s and 60s to find materials that could be used to hold broken or fractured bone together while it knits. The best results came from Titanium which is germ resistant and very strong. The most popular type of dental implant is the Endosteal type; this can sustain one or several false teeth in situ. In order to be able to have one fitted you will need to have a strong wide jaw bone, but don`t worry most of us have one. The tests that are carried out first will involve the taking of x-rays and photos to help the surgeon determine if you qualify. The next stage will be to fit the base plate (the implant) to the jaw bone; this is done by making a small incision in the gum line and sliding the plate under it. It is fixed down using one of two available methods, either screwing it with self tappers, or attaching studs to the plate and drilling holes in the bone to slide and glue them into. The hole is stitched up and left to heal and fuse. The fusing of the plate and the jaw bone is called Osseointergration and was discovered in the original research, it can take from three to six months to complete. That done the incision is re-opened and one or more abutments are now attached to the plate, these are titanium implant poles that the actual false teeth will sit on. The teeth are made by an orthodontist out of a hard wearing ceramic, and will be very similar to the original teeth in size, shape and colour. The teeth are fitted by sliding them into place with surgical glue; the patient then gets used to them and re-adjusts their chewing habits to suit. They need no special attention or care, just the usual brushing and flossing, the usual six monthly check up will allow the dentist to keep the tartar build up down and help the teeth to keep on working fully as a normal natural molar. The teeth can be easily replaced if they become damaged during their life time, and at the end of their life with wear and tear.

A well constructed dental bridge can last a long time, about 15 to 20 years. Whereas, the poorly constructed bridge causes a lot of dental issues and a lot of dental visits. Well constructed dental bridges fit properly over the teeth and after the procedure, the regular dental visits and good oral hygiene improves its life span.
In order to fit the bridges over the teeth, the teeth are trimmed down. This ensures that it stays in place. The most common problem that occurs with dental bridges is they start getting loose or may even fall out. There are several reasons that can cause this to happen. One of the most common reason would be that the bridge was not constructed properly or the tooth was not trimmed down properly. Tooth decay can also cause the bridge to loosen.
Another most encountered problem with dental bridges is fracture. Yes, fracture. It sounds strange, but there are often times when hairline fractures appear in the bridges. It mostly occurs with either failure to construct the bridge according to the set standards or the bite mechanics that are taken to construct the bridge are misjudged.
Generally, the dental bridge is supposed to completely cover the teeth. But if it does not cover appropriately, then this results in spacing between the bridge and the teeth. In order to set the bridge on the teeth, the teeth are trimmed. Improper coverage of the teeth by bridges make them prone to decay as well as cavities.
The size of dental bridges is another important thing to consider. If the bridge is too slim, then this will cause food residues to lodge between the teeth, which ultimately leads to tooth decay. And, if the bridge is too bulky, then it will impact on the cheek and lips that can cause minor or severe mucosal irritation.
Therefore, when you plan to get your dental bridges, just be sure that you consult with your dentist at Reading.

There are several reasons why patients should avoid smoking after installing Manchester dental implants. Let’s take a look at a few of them to get a better understanding why smoking is bad after installing Manchester dental implants.
Smoking hinders the healing process.
Smokers who continue to indulge on cigarettes have a tougher time healing from the surgery to install Manchester dental implants. This happens because the area round the dental implants is very sensitive to the chemicals found in cigarettes. In fact, it is also very vulnerable to the nicotine found in cigarettes. As a result, patients should avoid smoking (if they possibly can) to avoid delay the healing process.
Smoking can also render Manchester dental implants useless.
Some smokers who continue to smoke after installing Manchester dental implants have rendered their dental implants useless because the area round the implants becomes consistently exposed to nicotine. This is detrimental to the success of using Manchester dental implants because nicotine constricts the blood vessels. This decreases the blood supply to the gums and makes it difficult for the bone and gum tissues in the mouth from repairing themselves round the implants. As a result, it is a bad idea to smoke after installing dental implants.
